Del gaélico clásico gorm ("azul, verde vegetal, oscuro") (irlandés gorm, gaélico escocés gorm),[1][2] del protoindoeuropeo *gʷhermós ("cálido").[3][4] Compárese el irlandés antiguo grís ("calor"), latín formus ("cálido"), o el inglés warm.
